The text uses templating by pulling the state of the binary sensor fridge door.Īs you can see from the example above it does work when I’m really specific with my sentence, but if I diverge in some way it doesn’t understand me. Text: " The Fridge is "Ībove I’m referencing the CustomFridge Sensor (you need to ensure that this is written in the same way as in the custom_sentences folder. Now that you have that saved, go to your normal configuration.yaml and you need to tell assist what to do once it receives one of these two sentences. You can add as many sentences you want by adding – to each line. I’m creating an intent called CustomFridgeSensor to understand what the status is of the Fridge, by using natural expressions. You can also create your own phrases, this is a two step process:Ĭreate a new file under the custom_sentences/enĪdd a new file in that folder with. You can also make this generic by adding these tags # Example on_off.yaml entry Keep the structure with the sentences and the slots (name of the device). My family speaks both English and Italian so I’m creating a command to turn on and turn off using the words accendi and spegni from the Italian language.Īs you can see I’m referencing the intent HassTurnOn and HassTurnOff, use the GitHub repository to find out the names of other intents that you can expand. inside the file copy this content # Example on_off.yaml entry.yaml files with a name that makes sense to you I’m creating a file called on_off.yaml Create two new folders the first custom_sentences, inside that create a second folder with your language code in my example en.Go to your configuration folder either with file editor or visual studio code (add-ons).You can contribute to the official project, but if you want to quickly add some custom sentences in your home assistant this is how: In my example I’m going to use iMac lamp. This intent looks for given sentences that are listed from line 6 to line 11. In the image below on line 3 is an example of an Intent –> HassTurnOn. The GitHub repos with all intents is here: In the section below I’m going to show you how you can expand an existing intent. Assist will always reply back with some pre-defined text.īased on the language that you have set it will answer in the correct language.Īs always with Home Assistant you can customise and create your own intents. The voice command gets converted into text and that text is parsed agains an engine to establish the next best step which might include turning a light on or off in home assistant. IntentsĪn intent is what I user is seeking to do with their phrase, this concept is valid for all of our voice assistance. You can ask home assistant home many devices are on, turn lights on, turn lights off being quite specific about the device name. This engine is also used with the voice capabilities by using Siri shortcuts and on Android wear. How can I get this to work? Every time I do a google, or other search websites for a solutions, I always get answers to questions in regards to using Siri to run Alexa routines instead, which is the opposite of what I am trying to achieve and nobody can seem to help me work this out.Assist is home assistants new way of interacting with smart devices in your home by typing in sentences and doing actions and telling us some information. ![]() So, all I need is Alexa to run a routine, turn everything off (and on when I want to use stuff), using some sort of way to access Siri Shortcuts to run the routines with no real issue, saving me time and that small window that would stop me getting distracted, (I look at my phone, I either see a notification for YouTube, Quora or Twitter, the next thing I know 4 hours has gone by. So, I have asked the guy who wrote the software etc for WoloW about running this via Alexa and I can't remember what he said, but basically it isn't coming to alexa. If not, just a simple turn off, is good with me. I have not set up any of this yet, I hope I am correct in thinking that Alexa can do this. ![]() ![]() I am just after something, that will ask, at say 1am, am I still awake for example, and then I can reply, if no reply I can then have alexa to turn everything off, if I reply I am awake and she can ask again in 30 mins. etc so, I have all of these switch off at a certain time, and I have done this via siri, but siri never works as I have to unlock and tap the notification to enable the shortcut to run. I have managed to get Wake on Lan setup with Siri shortcuts using WoloW.Įverything is working perfectly at the moment, except, I sometimes fall asleep before I turn off my PC, my TV is the screen I am using for the PC, as well as normal TV, Smart TV, Sky TV, Xbox. I currently have my home setup with everything running via Alexa, either running everything via voice or time, however there is one thing that is not setup for alexa to run, my PC.
